BLUE FOOD EP
Aug 2025
Blue Food EP is a deeply personal musical journey from Lou Lyons and Freetown Collective—a love letter to Tobago that explores the island’s culture, landscapes, and identity. Named after the traditional Tobagonian dish made from dasheen, “blue food” serves as a powerful metaphor for cultural heritage, resilience, and the things that nourish and shape us.
Volume 1 invites listeners into the heart of Tobagonian life, weaving together the island’s distinctive “drawl,” its connection to Lover’s Rock music, and the complex relationship between Tobago and Trinidad. Through tracks like “Castara,” “Pembroke,” and “Heritage,” Lou Lyons pays homage to the villages, coastlines, and traditions that formed him—from the sound of the sea that’s always present in Pembroke, to the magical paradise of Castara with its dirt oven bread and Thursday night bonfires.
More than just a collection of songs, Blue Food is an invitation for deeper understanding and appreciation of Tobago—a musical portrait of an island where hard times refine rather than weaken, where community and heritage are celebrated, and where the landscape itself becomes part of the rhythm. It’s the initiation into what it means to be Tobagonian, told through the eyes of one of its sons.
